They want teachers to strike. They are already pushing the narrative that teachers are overpaid and greedy. Bevin would love to have his Reagan-like moment of firing the teachers.
But consider that in many Kentucky counties, the schools are the largest employer. In Jefferson County, they’re number 2. This will quickly have a ripple effect through communities if they do so.
Kentucky Republicans want to destroy public education. They want to replace it with private and privatized schools. If these fail, they don’t care because they can afford to put their kids where they want. This is not about what is right for kids, teachers, public workers, or Kentucky. This is about a political ideology that hates public institutions and seeks to replace them with private interests, all because those who have much want some more.
I stand, as I always have, behind public schools.
