The bill's apt title, "AN ACT relating to the local provision of wastewater services" was rushed through without any transparency at all, with the GOP subverting the normal Democratic process and ignoring their own alleged values of fiscal responsibility and smarter government in the mold of the ideals of our founding fathers.
They got their way, just as they were going to at the start of this session. Republicans hate public education. Damon Thayer, Matt Bevin, Robert Benvenutti, Phil Moffett, Hal Heiner, and many others don't put their kids in public schools and have deep ties to religious education. They're looking to divert money to private schools, break public school unions, lower educational standards for teachers, and break the back of the public education systems. They want to destroy the system so they can point to the schools (and "non-profits") they support as superior to whatever is left.
I hope and pray that Kentuckians find the moral courage to push back and fight against this sewage bill that does nothing but harm to Kentucky and its children.
Shame on everyone who ignored Kentucky's teachers, students, parents, and citizens in pushing out this bill that only out of state billionaires could love. Here's hoping whatever comes next, the people of Kentucky rally behind our teachers.
